July 21,22 we went backpacking in
Allegany State Park. We went there last year and had a great time so we thought we'd do it again this year. We knew from last year that there is no water up there so Josh put 6 2 liter bottles in his backpack! Good thing we weren't planning on backpacking in very far! Hayden did great. He loved his front carrier and he slept great next to us.
There are 2 trails to backpack on, one leads to the other. People are not supposed to camp off the first trail...they don't say why, they just say that your not supposed to. Last year on the second night we camped off the "not supposed to" trail. All night long we heard semi-trucks driving on a freeway near us. We didn't think there was a freeway anywhere near where we were. The next morning we looked on a map and there is NO freeway!
This year we didn't want to hike in that far so we camped off the "not supposed to" trail again. We heard lots of noises that you can't make yourself believe were animals or anything in nature. It sounded like airplanes landing and lots of other weird noises. We planned to stay 2 nights but after hearing weird noises all night, getting attacked by
mosquitos anytime you stepped out of the tent because it was so wet, and humid, and being stuck in the hot tent we decided to come home after one night. Despite all the weird noises,
mosquitos and humidity I would have stayed another night just because I love backpacking. I love being out in the quiet woods with our little family and no other distractions. By the way we came home and looked online there is no airport anywhere near
Allegany State Park!
